10 Things Californians Fail to Understand About Rain

Rain, it’s a foreign concept to most Californians. To them, water is an element that comes from the ocean on the coast or from a purified spring called Evian. But what water does not do is fall from the sky, at least not often enough that they remember how to act when it happens. So the following is 10 things that Californians fail to understand about rain.

1. Umbrellas are not necessary for a light misting.

2. Parkas are better suited for snow than rain.

3. The faux fur lining your jacket’s hood is not water proof and therefore smells like wet dog for the remainder of the week.

4. Uggs are more water absorbent than a mega Bounty paper towel roll.

5. If you don’t angle the umbrella towards the incoming rain, you’ll still get drenched.

6. Hanging your soaked clothing on wood over the carpet causes the wood and carpet to absorb any dripping water.

7. You still have to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks even in a torrential downpour. That way you don’t nearly kill me as I’m walking back from class at 10pm.

8. That water falling from the sky is called rain, it’s a common weather element that completes the water cycle. It’s necessary to prevent your rivers and reservoirs from drying up. Also since you live in a sunny state, stop complaining about the 1 day of rain you have every 3 months.

9. Short shorts don’t protect you from getting soaked. In fact, they do less than normal shorts and jeans to protect you from the rain.

10. Flip-flops may be made of buoyant material, but it does not allow you to float over large puddles of water, nor do they protect your feet from them.
